Most German manufacturers do not produce boards thicker than 8mm. The reason for this is the underlay used with most installations. These underlays are between 2-5mm thick and have such advantages as sound reduction and heat insulation. The pressed wood, which the boards are made of, do not have any such advantages. The only advantage of a thicker board is it’s levelling, which is an advantage rubberlay also offers. In most cases the same amount of pressed wood is used for any thickness of board, therefore the thicker boards actually have more pores, making it less water resistance. Therefore, when choosing a thickness, put more emphasis on the underlay than on the thickness of the board.
